One campaign... two challenges!

Everyone in the UAE – across all generations and nationalities - is invited to participate in one or both of the two challenges organised as part of the ‘Stand up & Take Action’ campaign this year:

1. STAND UP: was held on 17th, 18th or 19th October 2008, in support of the Millennium Development Goals, and was part of the world record for the most people standing up for a cause! The Stand Up campaign is now officially over, but you can continue to pledge and commit to a greener earth whenever you wish.
2. TAKE ACTION: You can plant a tree or pot a plant as part of the ‘Mission Green Earth’ global tree plantation drive before July 2009 and/or commit to any of the elements of Sustainable Living – waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency or sustainable landscaping – as individuals or groups.

No money is required from you, only some of your time!

What should you do in order to participate in the PLANT A TREE challenge?

PLEDGE TO PLANT TREES AND POTTED PLANTS ONLINE. PLANT YOUR TREES BEFORE JULY 2009 AND SEND US A REPORT

1. Discuss it with the people around you: You could plant trees in your garden with your family and friends, or create a group event at your workplace, university or school with your own message or banners for a greener UAE. Make sure you get a green light from the persons who have the authority to authorise such an event: your manager, professor, parent or landscaper. In terms of what to plant, you have two options:

   • Plant your own trees, in accordance with the principles of ‘sustainable landscaping’. You should commit to plant and nurture them till a tree appears and reaches maturity.

• Order seeds (at no cost) and plant the Ghaf trees. You can collect seeds from designated points (See more later.) You should commit to plant and nurture them till the tree reaches maturity.

2. If you choose to order and plant Ghaf seeds, fill the 'Seed Ordering Form' available on this website (download here) or visit a Barclays Bank (see more below).

   • By planting a tree or adopting a potted plant in your home, school or work place, you are showing that you are committed to the cause of sustainable development in the UAE.

3. (Optional) Design and print your own banners, posters, T-shirts, etc., using the campaign’s logo and templates available on this website (click here to download these files). Or you can you ask for you own Mission Green Earth T-Shirts (contact us today.)

4. Gather your group, plant your trees, and take a photo! Fill your 'PLANT A TREE Reporting Form' and email it, along with your photo, to . You should only send one photo, not exceeding 100 KB.

How to Get Your Ghaf Seed Packets

­Ghaf Seeds are available with:

1. Designated Mission Green Earth Volunteers in select locations – please register & order your seeds online to receive the packets from them. You can register here and download the 'Plant a Tree' seed ordering form, planting instructions and the reporting form in the downloads section.
   
   
2. Barclays Bank Volunteers – just say you have registered to plant trees for Mission Green Earth 2008 and quote your registration number.

Ghaf seed packets are available between 9.30am to 2.30pm on working days at the following branches of Barclays

DON’T FORGET to take a picture with a Mission Green Earth banner or flyer while planting your seeds & report back to us with the picture, so you can be counted in the final tally!

Note: In Dubai, you can create Ghaf seed nurseries in your homes/offices according to planting instructions and then hand them over to the Dubai Municipality horticulture department. They will take the responsibility of planting it around Dubai.
