Stand Up & Speak Out 2007
In 2007, the 'Stand Up & Speak Out' challenge was organised in the UAE on October 17th by The ‘Art of Living’ and 'International Association for Human Values' (AOL/IAHV) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the special support of UN Messenger of Peace HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein and the International Humanitarian City (IHC).
AOL and IAHV are sister NGOs coordinating the campaign in UAE. AOL is coordinating the campaign in 87 other countries around the world as well.
The campaign was extremely popular last year, and saw wide participation and media coverage. A total of 97,000 people stood up across the Emirates - in schools, universities, companies, etc. – and made a pledge to fight against poverty and inequality.
Globally in 2007, over 43.7 million people in 127 countries 'Stood Up Against Poverty', breaking the record set the previous year at 23.5 million.
